Jakup Krasniqi was born on 01.01.1951 in Fatos – municipality of Glogovac, Kosovo. Currently lives in Priština. He was elected President of the Assembly of Kosovo on 09.01.2008. His previous functions were: From 1991-1999 he was a member of presidency of Democratic Union of Kosovo (LDK), branch in Glogovac. He was an MP of Non-constituted Parliament of Kosovo from 1992-1998; From 1998-1999 he acted as spokesperson of General Headquarters of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), member of General Headquarters and a member of Political Directorate. From 1998-2003 he acted as Secretary General of Party for Democratic Prosperity of Kosovo (PPDK), and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK); Spokesperson of General Headquarters of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) 1998-1999; Minister for reconstruction and development 1999-2000; 2001- MP, 1st mandate; Minister for Public Services in the Government of Kosovo, 2002-2004; October 2004, MP, 2nd mandate in the Assembly of Kosovo, Head of Parliamentary Group of PDK; November 2007, MP, 3rd mandate; October 2005 – he was re-elected for Secretary General of PDK. From November 2005 he became member of SPG from PDK. During the period 1972-1981 and 1991-1198 he worked as teacher in many schools in municipality of Glogovac.
He has published public political and scientific publications in daily, periodical and scientific magazines. He published the following books “Kosovo in historical context” 2005, “Big turning point – Kosovo Liberation Army” 2006, and “Different war for Kosovo” 2007. He was a political prisoner during 1981-1991. He graduated History on Faculty of Philosophy, University of Priština, in 1976, and post-graduate studies of history in 1999. He earned master’s degree at University of Kosovo on the subject „Political movement and armed resistance in Kosovo 1991 – 1999.
