Hashim Thaqi was born on 24.04.1968 in village Buroja – municipality of Srbica/Skenderaj in Kosovo. Mr. Thaqi became Prime Minister on January 9, 2008. From 03/1999 – 01/2000 he was Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of Kosovo. In political life he was first engaged in people’s movement for Republic of Kosovo, from 1983 – 1993e - NPK. In 1997 he was, together with a group of KLA Members, led by Adem Jashari, sentenced in absence to many years of imprisonment. He followed post-graduate studies in University of Zurich, Switzerland (1996) in the field of South-East European history and political sciences, until beginning of 1998. During his stay in the West, he was frequently illegally returning to Kosovo, in order to strengthen KLA formations in the field.
After the war, Mr. Thaqi has been, as Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of Kosovo, leading the negotiations with international factor and he is the signing partner of the Agreement on transformation of KLA into Kosovo Protection Core (KPC). In the beginning of the work of Provisional Administrative Board - KPA, as joint executive structure with UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), he was a member of this board since January 2000 until first parliamentary elections, held in 2001. In October 1999 he founded Party for Democratic Progress of Kosovo – PPDK, and on the first electoral assembly (in 2000) Hashim Thaqi was elected President of the Democratic Party of Kosovo – PDK. He was re-elected president of PDK on its second and third assembly, in 2002 and in 2005. He was elected MP in all three mandates in the Assembly of Kosovo.
He published a lot of studies and articles in domestic, regional and international press.
